In today's podcast we throw three regional dialects into one big party mix, and end up with something that reminds us a lot of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, missing only the violent cage matches, roaming bands of desert orphans, and classic Tina Turner 80's soundtrack. Our podcast also has more Wu dialect and less Mel Gibson than you might otherwise expect.

OK. So we might be stretching the comparison a bit, but if you're looking for interesting Chinese-only listening material that will prove useful should you ever find yourself in a post-apocalyptic world run by Wu speakers, this is pretty much the perfect podcast for you (de lei). So take it to the gym, listen in on your way to work, or just leave it lying around to impress your monolingual friends and colleagues.

@xiaoxin&scarlett,

@startman1,

@ktjiejie,

北京吃豆浆油条或者油饼,呵呵。

我不太清楚你具体想问的是哪句话,能具体点儿指出来吗?比如在录音的第多少分钟?

因为绝大多数的方言词句没有被加入普通话中,而且很多方言词,特别是口语化的,没有对应的汉字词,所以也不便在生词表中加入,还望见谅啊 :)

@ktjiejie&barrister,

"你二啊,你脑子进水了!"

"二"这儿就是"二百五"的意思,"二"是一种并不rude的说别人比较笨的方式,"二百五"就比较粗鲁了。

除了"脑子进水了"以外,我们还有一些其他有意思的表达:脑子被门挤了,脑子被驴踢了,(你昨天)被猪亲了...等等。

Wu luo huixi gan 上海 wu.

I had an 阿姨 from 安徽 when I was in 上海. I picked up a few words from her... she'd often get confused as to which words were from 普通话 and which were 方言. She'd always say 钞票 instead of 钱 , 衣sang instead of 衣服...

What would always surprise me was that whenever people from Hangzhou or Suzhou would speak Shanghainese, they would sound completely different. Less than an hour on the train, and you're in a place where the 方言 might as well be from another planet!

When Suzhou/Hangzhou people speak Shanghainese, I'm always blown away by how extravagant their accents are. A bit like Britain, where Her Majesty speaks with one accent, and over the border in Scotland it's like they're speaking a different language.

@maxiewawa,

My solution to seeming like a local in Shanghai was simply not to talk at all...lol...

I have a friend who has an 阿姨 from Gansu(甘肃). Since there is usually nobody else at my friend's home in the daytime, so if anyone calls, the 阿姨 would say "Jia4 li3 mo4 renr1, Jia4 li3 mo4 renr1"(家里没人) and hang up the phone immediately.
