I thought Tianjin dialect would sound something like 普通话 or even Beijing dialect, but..... no.

So weird to listen to. The enunciation is what I would expect from a Northern speaker, and I can recognize most of the words, but the tones are all upside down!

I'll ask a question about the dialogue. At one point the man says:

他不上五险一金,没保险!

...and the host asks:

有没有三险?

I think they're referring to insurance, but I don't understand the concept. What is 三险 and 五险?

@murrayjames,

They're referring to different levels of coverage. The three insurances are:

养老保险 - old age pension

医疗保险 - medical insurance

失业保险 - unemployment insurance

The "five insurances" and "one fund" add:

工伤保险 - work injury insurance

和生育保险 - maternity insurance

住房公积金 - housing fund (technically a fund or 基金)
